Planning a bucks party and want something way cooler than just bar hopping? You’re not alone. More grooms are ditching the standard pub crawl for something more memorable—and a lot tastier. Enter: the bucks cooking class.
Gone are the days when bucks parties were just about wild nights and hazy memories. In 2025, more grooms are skipping the cliché pub crawls in favour of something fresh, fun, and actually memorable. The big trend? Cooking experiences.

Not every groom wants a wild night filled with pub crawls and questionable decisions. These days, more guys are looking for a bucks party that’s still fun, but with a touch of class. Think amazing food, hands-on experiences, craft drinks, and great company—without the hangover.

Planning a group activity for the boys can get tricky. You want something fun, memorable, and a little different from the usual pub night or awkward group dinner. Whether you're organising a bucks party, a birthday bash, or just a weekend catch-up with the crew, you want something that guys will genuinely enjoy.
Planning a bucks party can get overwhelming fast. Between juggling guest lists, managing everyone’s opinions, and trying to plan something the groom will actually enjoy, it’s easy to feel the pressure. But here’s the good news: you don’t need to stress or overcomplicate things.

Let’s be honest—most traditional bucks parties are a bit… predictable. A pub crawl, a few embarrassing dares, maybe some questionable entertainment. But what if you want something more meaningful (and a lot more fun) to celebrate your best mate’s final days of singledom?

Introduction
Layoffs are among the most difficult challenges a company can face. Beyond financial restructuring, they leave emotional and psychological impacts on the remaining workforce. As a leader, your role in managing this transition is vital. This guide provides proven strategies to rebuild morale, restore trust, and re-engage your team.
Understanding the Emotional Impact of Layoffs
Layoffs can spark uncertainty, fear, and sadness. These emotions often manifest as:
- Decreased productivity
- Low team engagement
- Distrust in leadership
Key Areas Affected by Layoffs
Key Aspect | Common Impact |
---|---|
Company Performance | Reduced efficiency |
Employee Engagement | Lowered morale |
Career Path Clarity | Increased anxiety |
Pro Tip: Acknowledge these emotions openly. Employees need validation and support to move forward.
Communicate Transparently and Empathetically
Open, honest communication helps re-establish confidence in leadership.
How to Communicate Post-Layoff
- Explain the reasons: Share the business context and goals.
- Be empathetic: Express compassion for those affected.
- Address common concerns: Provide clear answers about job security and organizational structure.
- Hold Q&A forums: Let employees voice questions and receive real-time responses.
- Leverage internal communication channels: Use newsletters, videos, and team briefings for ongoing updates.
Transparent communication also means not hiding bad news. It’s better to be upfront about potential future changes rather than sugarcoat current challenges. Employees respect honesty and are more likely to remain loyal when they feel leadership is forthright.
Rebuild Trust and Stability
Trust is the foundation of a resilient team. Post-layoff, leaders must work actively to rebuild it.
Trust-Building Tactics
- Be present and consistent: Show up in team meetings and make yourself available.
- Offer support systems (e.g., counseling, mentoring): Provide professional resources and peer support networks.
- Provide outplacement resources for those transitioning: Help those who were let go move forward with dignity.
- Celebrate team milestones and small wins: Create reasons for your team to celebrate together.
- Maintain fairness in work distribution: Avoid burnout by reviewing workloads regularly.
Creating a culture of psychological safety is crucial. This means fostering an environment where employees can express their thoughts, ask questions, and admit mistakes without fear of retribution.
Show Appreciation for Remaining Employees
Recognition goes a long way in retaining top talent and boosting morale.
Ways to Show Appreciation
- Thank team members publicly in meetings
- Celebrate milestones with team lunches or awards
- Provide career development opportunities and mentorship
- Send personalized notes from leaders
- Offer small perks like flexible working hours or wellness days
An employee who feels seen and appreciated is far more likely to stay engaged and contribute to the company’s recovery. Don’t underestimate the power of small but consistent gestures.
Encourage Feedback and Open Dialogue
Transparency doesn't end with communication—it thrives in open dialogue.
How to Foster Dialogue
- Create safe spaces for discussion
- Implement anonymous feedback tools
- Train managers in active listening and empathy
- Encourage skip-level meetings: Allow employees to speak with higher-level managers occasionally.
- Use engagement surveys to track sentiment and trends
Two-way communication ensures leadership isn’t making decisions in a vacuum. Employees who feel heard are more likely to buy into new goals and initiatives.
Provide Reassurance and Direction
Clarity about the future reduces fear and empowers employees.
Key Steps
- Share your strategic roadmap: Clearly communicate the company's direction and financial goals.
- Clarify roles and responsibilities: Avoid ambiguity around team functions.
- Show how employee contributions align with company goals
- Reinforce organizational values and mission: These act as the glue that holds a team together during change.
When leaders provide a vision that connects everyday tasks to broader objectives, employees feel part of something meaningful.
Promote Engagement and Involvement
Engagement is the antidote to low morale. Get employees involved in shaping the future.
Engagement Strategies
- Involve employees in decision-making: Use task forces or innovation committees.
- Organize team-building events (e.g., cooking classes, group challenges)
- Encourage cross-functional collaboration: Break down silos for better innovation.
- Assign project ownership: Let employees lead smaller initiatives or pilots.
- Recognize contributions through internal communication channels
Try This: Host a Social Cooking Class or Team Building Cooking Challenge with Otao Kitchen. These events offer hands-on collaboration, cultural immersion, and shared achievement, all essential for morale and teamwork. Otao Kitchen’s culinary experiences are ideal for post-layoff recovery and workplace reconnection.
Employees who participate in shaping the company’s future are more likely to commit to its success.
Offer Growth and Development Opportunities
Empower employees to see a future within the organization.
Development Ideas
- Launch skill development programs: Offer workshops and e-learning.
- Create clear career paths: Help employees visualize advancement.
- Support personal growth through non-work initiatives like wellness or creativity sessions
- Provide leadership development programs: Prepare high-potential employees for next-level roles.
- Encourage mentorship and knowledge sharing: Develop a strong culture of learning.
A learning environment is a thriving environment. The more opportunities employees have to grow, the more engaged and loyal they become.
Foster a Positive Work Environment
An uplifting environment improves morale and productivity.
Steps to Create Positivity
- Encourage kindness and peer recognition
- Foster inclusivity through DEI training and events
- Introduce wellness programs like yoga or meditation
- Create social clubs or interest groups to promote bonding
- Celebrate cultural holidays to acknowledge team diversity
A positive culture doesn’t just lift morale—it improves retention, innovation, and performance.
Monitor Morale and Adjust Strategies
Morale is dynamic. Stay tuned to employee sentiment and evolve your strategy.
Monitoring Tools
- One-on-one check-ins: Personalize interactions
- Pulse surveys: Quick mood checks
- Team retrospectives: Reflect on wins and challenges
Adapt Based on Feedback
Use insights to:
- Improve communication
- Adjust workloads
- Address emerging challenges proactively
- Invest in specific development programs
- Revisit recognition systems
Employees appreciate when their feedback leads to action. It demonstrates that leadership is not only listening but also adapting.
Conclusion
Navigating layoffs is never easy, but strong, empathetic leadership can transform the aftermath into an opportunity for growth. By focusing on transparency, appreciation, engagement, and development, you can restore your team's spirit—and even come out stronger than before.
Foster open communication. Validate emotions. Provide growth paths. Lead with integrity. These principles will carry your team through tough times and into a new chapter of resilience and success.

Whether you're organizing a corporate gala, hiring a kitchen for a cooking workshop, or hosting a food and wine tasting, there's one thing you can't overlook—public liability insurance. It's essential for protecting your business and ensuring peace of mind when the unexpected occurs.
Understanding Public Liability Insurance
Public Liability insurance provides coverage if a customer, supplier, or member of the public is injured, or their property is damaged due to your negligent business activities. While planning an event or hiring a kitchen space offers exciting opportunities, it also exposes you to certain risks and responsibilities.
Types of Events That Benefit from Insurance Coverage
From small gatherings to large corporate events, having insurance coverage can make all the difference. Here are some types of events where public liability insurance is particularly beneficial:
- Corporate Events: Whether it's a product launch or a conference, corporate events often involve numerous participants and activities, increasing the potential for accidents.
- Cooking Workshops: The combination of cooking equipment and participants can create situations where injuries or damages might occur.
- Kitchen Hire for Events: Renting a kitchen space comes with its own set of risks, including equipment malfunctions and accidents.
- Food and Wine Tastings: Serving food and beverages brings additional liability concerns, especially if alcohol is involved.
- Conferences and Seminars: With large crowds and multiple sessions, the possibility of unforeseen incidents is higher.
- Team Building Activities: These often involve physical activities that can lead to injuries or damages.
The Benefits of Public Liability Insurance
1. Protection Against Legal Costs
Legal claims can be financially crippling for any business. Public liability insurance covers legal expenses associated with defending your business against claims of negligence.
2. Compensation for Damages
If someone is injured or their property is damaged, insurance can cover the cost of compensation, which would otherwise come directly out of your pocket.
3. Peace of Mind
Knowing you have insurance allows you to focus on delivering a successful event without the constant worry about potential accidents.
Risk Management and Insurance
While insurance provides coverage for the financial implications of accidents, adopting proactive risk management practices minimizes the chance of incidents occurring in the first place. Conducting thorough risk assessments and implementing safety measures should be part of your planning process.
Where you can get insurance
You can best to search for insurance company or insurance broker online using keyword "public liability insurance for event planner". You will find company such as Aondirect or Entertainmentinsurance. Otao kitchen will require event planners and kitchen hirer to provide their copy of public liability insurance.
Summary
In today's world, where unforeseen incidents can have serious financial implications, public liability insurance is not just an option for event planners and kitchen hire businesses—it's a necessity. It protects your business, allows you to focus on creating memorable experiences, and ensures that one unfortunate incident doesn't ruin everything you've worked hard for. It is the reason why at Otao Kitchen we have business and liability insurance to cover our guests, staff and business. Next time you can ask us to send you a copy before booking in any of our experiences.
If you're organizing an event or hiring a kitchen space, make sure your public liability insurance is in place. Protect your passion and your profits by safeguarding against the unexpected. If you're unsure about your specific insurance needs, consult with an insurance professional to ensure you're adequately covered.

As the year draws to a close, companies in Melbourne begin planning their corporate Christmas parties. These events are more than just a festive gathering—they're an opportunity to thank your team for their hard work, boost morale, and strengthen relationships.

Halloween is just around the corner, and it's time to start planning your 2024 spooky celebration. Whether you're hosting a haunted house party, a family gathering, or a casual get-together with friends, the food you serve can set the perfect eerie tone.

As Christmas approaches, it’s time to plan the perfect party to celebrate the holiday season. Melbourne is known for its vibrant events, and there’s no shortage of options when it comes to Xmas party ideas. Whether you’re organizing a corporate gathering, a family get-together, or a fun night out with friends, Melbourne offers a variety of venues and activities to suit every taste.
Team-building activities are a fantastic way to bring your team closer together, improve communication, and create lasting memories.

Planning an event, whether it's for a corporate team-building session, a birthday celebration, or a family get-together, requires finding the perfect venue. You want something unique, memorable, and engaging for everyone.

Whether you’re a budding chef, a small business owner, or planning a special event, hiring a commercial kitchen can be a game-changer. If you’ve ever thought, “I wish I had more space to cook,” or “I need better equipment,” then a commercial kitchen might be the solution you’re looking for. But, how exactly do you go about hiring one?

Whether you're planning a cooking party, corporate event, or special celebration, having the right space can make all the difference. A kitchen for hire can take away the stress of cramming into a small space and make your event feel more professional and enjoyable.

"The venue sets the stage for the memories you’ll create." Whether you're planning a team-building workshop, a holiday party, or an impressive client meeting, choosing the right venue is crucial to the success of any corporate event.
In today's digital age, kids are spending more time online than ever before. While the internet offers many entertainment options, it's also a fantastic platform for learning.

In today's workplace, it's common for employers to organize team-building outings for their staff. If you've ever worked in a team, chances are you've participated in a "trust fall" or similar exercise.

When people think of team-building exercises, they often imagine activities like trust falls and compliment circles.

When it comes to team building, it’s important to choose activities that are not only enjoyable but also help build stronger relationships among team members. One of the most engaging and delicious options is pasta making.
The holiday season is fast approaching, and with it comes the joy (and sometimes the stress) of finding the perfect gifts for loved ones. While it's always wonderful to give and receive thoughtfully chosen presents, there's a versatile, stress-free option that's gaining popularity: Christmas vouchers.

Best Team Building Activities to Do While on Conference Calls
In today’s increasingly remote workplace, corporate teams across the world have embraced virtual collaboration. As we adapt to this new way of working, one key challenge remains: how do we stay connected and build a strong team culture from a distance?
The answer lies in regular and meaningful team building activities—even during conference calls. These virtual team-building efforts are essential for cultivating trust, boosting morale, and improving collaboration.
Why Virtual Team Building Matters
Remote work can make communication feel transactional. In-person interaction naturally builds rapport through body language, eye contact, and shared experiences. But when working virtually, we need to be more intentional about creating emotional connections.
Getting the whole team together in person is not always feasible—flights, accommodation, and the environmental impact of travel (each roundtrip flight adds about 0.5 metric tons of CO₂) can be significant. Instead, virtual team building during conference calls offers a low-cost, sustainable, and accessible way to stay connected.
Here’s how to build a more bonded and collaborative team during your Zoom, Teams, or Meet calls.

By starting with a clear understanding of your event's what and why, you can set a benchmark for success and ensure that every aspect of your event is optimised. Read on to discover how to plan an event perfectly.
1. Define Your Event's Goals and Objectives
The first and most critical step to planning any event is to establish clear goals and objectives. Before you start planning, ask yourself: why are you organizing this event, and what do you hope to achieve? Maybe you want to raise awareness for a particular cause or attract a specific number of attendees. Whatever your goals may be, make sure they are quantifiable, so it's easier to measure success. Knowing your objectives from the beginning can help you create an effective event plan and ensure that everything you do supports your ultimate ambitions.
2. Understand Your Audience
Once you have defined your goals and objectives, the next step is to understand your audience. Ask yourself: who are the people you want to attend your event? What are their needs, interests, and preferences? Knowing your audience will guide decisions around your event's date and time, location, type of activities, and speakers. For example, if your audience comprises mostly millennials, they may prefer an immersive event experience. On the other hand, if your target audience is corporate managers, they may require a different type of event.
3. Determine Revenue and Expenditure
Every event requires funding, and it's essential to determine the sources of revenue and expenditure. You can generate revenue from ticket sales, sponsorships, grants, company donations, or exhibition fees. When it comes to expenses, allocate funds for venue hire, activities, food and beverage, technology, speakers and entertainment, marketing and promotion, event styling, and travel. Make sure to set a realistic budget and consider all possible costs to avoid unexpected expenses.
4. Plan for Logistics
Planning for logistics is critical in ensuring that your event runs smoothly. Key logistics areas to consider include venue management, transportation, security, catering, and audio-visual equipment. When choosing a venue, make sure it's suitable for your event's size and requirements. Consider factors such as accessibility, parking, and accommodation options. Also, think about the location's ambiance and whether it is conducive to your attendees' overall experience.
5. Promote Your Event
Finally, promoting your event is a crucial element of a successful event plan. To maximize attendance, create a comprehensive marketing campaign that includes email marketing, social media, event listing sites, and PR outreach. Make sure to set up a dedicated event page on your website, which highlights the event's features and benefits. Leverage all the available marketing channels to create buzz and excitement around your event.
Conclusion:
In conclusion, planning an event is an involved process that requires careful attention to detail and a comprehensive plan. By starting with a clear what and why, understanding your audience, determining revenue and expenditure, planning for logistics, and promoting your event, you can create an unforgettable experience that achieves your goals. Following this ultimate event planning guide will set you up for success and ensure that your event stands out from the rest.

This guide may not be all of what you need to do because it will depend on the type of event you are holding, we can suggest some best practices that are important to follow for any event.

Business event future is shrouded in uncertainty which the outlook depends on several factors in Australia and overseas such as resurgences of the virus, medical advances, restrictions on travel, the economy at large after easing restriction. The industry will bounce back. After all, we can't wait to see other people face-to-face because we like a strong sense of community and other people. Speak to many of our event planners, they share with us:
If your team is experienced and hard-working but its performance has been "hit and miss". You may find the team has lost some of its energy and motivation and morale is beginning to drop. You can get people back on track by exploring some team-building strategies and activities. Team building is about providing bonding time that your people need so that they can work in harmony. But, to be truly effective, it needs to be a continual process, embedded in your team and business culture.
There's a place for one-off team-building exercises, but they need to have a clear purpose, such as improving a particular skill and must be well designed to avoid conflict. In this article, you can explore how to use team-building activities and exercises as part of an ongoing strategy for developing a strong and effective team.
Getting Started with Identifying Your Team’s Needs
The first and most important step when planning team building activities is to identify your team’s strengths and weaknesses. Start by asking questions to identify the root of any problems.
- Are there any conflicts within the team?
- Do they need to know one another better?
- Is poor communication affecting the team progress?
- Do people need to learn to work together, instead of individually?
- Does the group need a morale boost?
Making Team Building Part of Your Business
Regular team-building sessions are one way to strengthen the bonds within your team, but they are not a shortcut to success. Instead, you need to make team-building part of your team thinking. Think about the team-building potential of routine workplace activities. You can use the four strategies to develop your team’s strength, cohesiveness and effectiveness:
1. Get to Know Your Team
Your team is made up of people with different needs, ambitions and personalities. Getting to know your team, and helping them to get to know each other, can build a happy, trusting team.
Hosting an evening drink is an easy way to start to get your team members mixing and mingling. Attending social events such as cooking classes is a great way to build relationships. People will more likely to open up and reveal more of their personalities in a relaxed setting. We think sharing aspects of your personal life increases your likability, as it shows others that you can be an empathic, compassionate and authentic manager.
2. Work Toward a Common Goal
You can unite your team by inspiring them to get behind a shared vision or goal. Having an identified destination can prevent individuals from pulling in different directions, which is frustrating and ineffective. Creating a plan can provide your people with a written definition of the team’s purpose and goals. You can find strategies for bringing a team together to achieve a particular goal.
3. Develop Strong Team Skills
Your team needs to develop the right skills and competencies to achieve its goals. Developing stronger skill sets, and matching your people to the roles best suited to them, can result in a more able, more motivated team. Chances are, as more and more people work from home or remotely, you could find yourself managing a virtual workplace. It can be hard to get to know team members who have limited meeting face-to-face. Time zones and cultural differences can present challenges when considering team building activities or strategies for virtual teams. It is possible to stay in regular and effective communication with virtual team members, given the wide range of available online tools. However, the key to building an effective team lies more in how its members to meet face-to-face than in the technology they use.
TEAM BUILDING AT OTAO KITCHEN
Team building can only occur when relevant and timely activities that address specific needs are part of your business. One-off exercises can help with this, but they are not a shortcut to success. The purpose of team building activities is to motivate your people to work together, to develop their strengths, and to address any weaknesses. So, any team-building exercise should encourage collaboration rather than competition.
Be sure to incorporate team building into your workplace. For example, get to know your people better, work toward common goals, develop their skills, and make the extra effort to connect with your virtual team. In this way, you'll build a firm foundation of purpose and trust that you can add challenging events appropriately.

Your bride might like the idea of a hen party somewhere hot and sunny. Others would much rather something more local. See what the bride would like to do – it doesn’t have to mean spoiling the surprise! Either way, you want to check the following
- What type of budget per head and minimum number?
- Do you have the minimum and the maximum number of guests?

- Are there any places you would particularly like to go?
- See if the bride has any favourite cities that she would really like to visit.
- Do you want to go away for one night or two?
- What is important to you?
- See what is the most important thing to the bride – is it that she goes to an amazing location or hotel? Or would she prefer something more low key and budget-friendly so everyone can come?
# 3 Invitation
This is important to put down the key person names and their availability so you can plan the date. You can set up a Group Chat or Facebook Group. Let the hens know the preferred date and consider giving them an indication of the budget you are working towards so they have time to decide whether they can come.

Once you have a set plan and costs in place, you can put all these details to the group. In our experience, it’s much easier to go to a large group with a decided plan so everyone knows what today. So long as you, the bride and the other bridesmaids are happy then it’s likely you have a great plan!
#5 Confirm Your Booking
You might get a few dropouts once you have a set date and price for the hen party. Let them know the cancellation fee or charge if you know.

Let the hens know how to pay their share and a deadline you are always likely to have a few late payments so we recommend booking using your credit card and then giving the hens a deadline that is earlier than you actually have to pay, this way you will have all the funds to pay on time. Alternatively, you can ask a supplier like Otaokitchen can give you a private link so people can pay for their service.
#7 On the day issues
Now you may want to think about transport if your hen party is far away then consider whether everyone will travel together. If you have hens coming from all over the country it may also be easier for everyone to be responsible for getting themselves to the location and time.

Planning hen party games or finding hen party accessories for the bride. Decorating the hen party house or hotel room? Ordering hen party t-shirts? Choosing hen party sashes? Creating hen party bags?
#9 Send them a reminder
You might want to send the hens schedule, plan and location again a week before the event date so they can come handy for contacting an emergency if required.

Event planning is a high-pressure industry, filled with intense deadlines, complex scheduling, and a constant stream of communication. With so much action and activity, it's no wonder that planners struggle to keep their feet on the ground. But what happens when the event is over? When it's time to return to the "real world"? This process is what experts have dubbed "Re-entry," and it's a critical moment for event planners. If managed poorly, it can lead to post-program blues, burnout, and even a loss of motivation. That's why it's essential to learn how to survive the ups and downs of the event planning cycle. In this blog, we'll explore how to manage re-entry, pace yourself back into a normal routine, and make the most of your post-event time.
1. Manage the re-entry: The first step in surviving the ups and downs of event planning is to manage the re-entry process. If you've been working non-stop on an event, returning to normal life can feel strange and overwhelming. To combat this, you need to pre-block your schedule prior to departure, so you have enough time to readjust. Additionally, once you've returned, it's essential to manage your time effectively. Take stock of your workload and prioritize what needs to be done. Make sure to tackle your most urgent tasks first, then gradually work through your to-do list.
2. Pace yourself back into a normal routine: Another key strategy for managing re-entry is to pace yourself back into a normal routine. You're not going to be able to jump straight back into your regular work schedule immediately after returning from an event. Instead, try to ease yourself back in gradually. Pick a few low-stakes tasks to start with, and build up from there. Also, look to your friends and family to help facilitate the transition back to daily life. They can provide emotional support and practical help as you readjust.
3. Clean out your email inbox: Before you left for the event, you probably let emails pile up in your inbox, only responding to the most crucial and time-sensitive messages. Now that you're back, it's time to clean out your inbox fully. Set aside some time during your first few days back to work and reply to any other important emails, so you're not playing catch-up.
4. Send thank-you notes: No event planner is an island. Most planners work with colleagues and team members who help produce a successful event. Make sure to send thank-you notes to these people in your team. Take the time to let them know how much their contributions meant to you. And if you can, throw a little gratitude their way with small gifts or other tokens of appreciation.
5. Take a few days off: Finally, it's crucial to remember that you're a human being, not a machine. After an event, it's okay to take some time off, focus on yourself, and recharge. Turn off your phone, shut down your computer, and take a break. Go for a walk, spend time with your family, or do something you enjoy. You'll return to work feeling refreshed and ready to tackle your next challenge.
Conclusion:
Successfully managing re-entry is a vital part of surviving the ups and downs of the event planning cycle. By pacing yourself back into a normal routine, managing your time effectively, and taking care of your mental health, you can avoid burnout and post-program blues. Remember to take the time to clean out your inbox, send thank-you notes, and take a few days off to recharge. By following these simple strategies, you'll be able to strike a balance between your work and personal life, and thrive in the event planning industry.
